Antique Delight

Its’ streamlined body
A smooth graceful ride
Within my ecstasy
I can scarcely hide

This classic model
A vehicle of ages
Traditional and antique
Makes the history pages

My favorite feature
Apart from the sloping roof
Is a huge glass rear window
See the view for proof

My envy to the person
Who owns such a classic
So precise is this marvel
I find utterly fantastic

    good to look at

but think how cold they were to drive. No heating no proper suspension no radio
I have to admit though I do love to look at all the beautiful old cars when they have the regular shows over here for them.

Pity antique people aren't as popular lol

Your poem is a classic too, smooth, pleasing, well written. It's about a car but of course could be anything, for me it might be I don't know...there's really nothing much I want...maybe a fast computer. But you get what I mean.

One of my teenage boyfriends had a car like this, rumble seat and all. We used to have great fun in it along with a couple of friends. My boyfriend used to let our friend drive so he and I could ride in the rumble seat sometimes.

A wonderful and well written poem, and I wish you good luck in the contest

A rumble seat is an extra car seat outside the car behind the rear window. It opens and closes depending upon if you want use it or not. If you look closely at your picture posted here with the poem, you can see part of the seat. It's probably called something else in Australia and other parts of the worls but here in the USA it was a 'rumble seat' There's a lot of people who've probably never heard of it but us old folks can remember.

I have a passion for anything to do with time travel, I especially would go back to this era, the cars, the clothes, the etiquette, everything . . . it was exquisite. Thank you for this information dear Catz. Much appreciated.

    Dear Petra,

I love the flow of your well-written poem. I prefer new cars myself. The old ones look nice in movies but I don't think they're as comfortable or as well equipped as we've gotten used to (love those creature comforts!).

So glad you're back! I hope you're doing well!

Best of Luck in this contest!

    Love and hugs,
    Maureen

    Dear Petra,
A lovely poem written about the old car. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Imagine a seat at the back of the cars these days, we'd never be allowed to ride in it.
    Love Jen.

    May I share memories?

I learned to drive on a 1930 Model A Ford very much like this one. I was sixteen, and my dad had bought it "used".

(I question the date for that reason. The model T Ford which for some reason came first, was not as sleek as this one; more angular. A Model T I saw had what they called "spoons" on the floor for change of gears, while the model A already had a clutch and gear-shift lever on the floor. The little parking lights near the windshield were on his too, but the rumble-seat at the back was not on the sedan as far as I can recall.

On the Model A I remember having to "set the timing" with two levers under the steering wheel as soon as the motor (which we started with an external crank) "sounded right," but it needed no repair and was easy to drive for many many years. Many cars have followed, but with never the thrill only teens know.

Your poem? Ah yes! Well done!

The very few early cars left have been lovingly renewed and as antiques, are worth a small fortune. Your poem brings this one up to date most delightfully, with all its dignity restored!

Best of luck in the contest!
    Terry

Your memories are much appreciated. I love this antique and although I was not born in the time of this car, I have such a passion for the era and love to watch movies involving these cars dreaming my dreams, I am a romantic at heart. Hope you are well dear friend.

Wonderful use of metaphor in this piece. I can easily see myself pondering very similiar thoughts. This piece flows like a dream and I say, I wouldn't not alter it at all. Excellent job.

    Dear Petra,

I love the poem you've written from the picture I added, there are many poems that can be written from it.
I remember my uncle had one similar but not that old, his also had a dicky seat at the back that he used to let me ride it, very thrilling when you're young.
Thankyou for entering our first monthly contest, good luck in the voting.

    Dear Petra,

To me a car is a machine for conveying one from point A to B. Many of my friends are vintage car enthusiasts, spending much time, money and effort restoring, improving, polishing, cleaning and tinkering with loving care then spending days with other like-minded devotees on extended rallies while their wives care for home and garden. Each to his own. It is good for anyone to have hobbies and interests.
Your poem fits the given picture admirably. Best of luck in the voting.
Applause, love and hugs, XXX Hugh (R.)
