December 17, 2005 was a day I'll never forget.
It snowed...
The earth was covered in a soft, pillowy blanket of white...
Just like I was.
Everything was perfect.
The Christmas lights strung pew to pew
Each light twinkling like your eyes that day.
The flowers...each one perfectly shaped sculptures of God's majesty,
Each hue brilliant, beaming, breath-taking.
Reds and whites like the colors of the season,
Splashed across the backdrop of the room.
A hundred small candles,
Burning like our love...each one flickered in the soft, dim light.
The cross in the background, draped in a swath of red fabric...
A reminder as we said our vows.
We were surrounded by a great company...
A great cloud of witnesses
Each one smiling, silently knowing what we knew already.
We were meant for each other.
And now,
Two years later...
Not much has changed.
The magic of that day has faded...but the love burns brighter than ever.
Now we celebrate with others on their day.
As I lay here beside you in the dawn's early glow
I hear the steady pace of your breathing...
I see your chest rise and fall and am filled with love.
I don't know what I did to deserve you,
Or why God saw fit to bless me with you.
I just lay beside you and listen...to you...
To the sweet hum of Heaven.

very heart warming. I really loved this, thank you for enterting my contest.
wish it will snow in South-Africa again. I only saw snow 3 times in my life... promise to submit a snowy poem if I see it again!!

As I have previously commented, this is amazing. maybe it is because I was there that day...or maybe just because I can relate...But I love the images.
"The earth was covered in a soft, pillowy blanket of white...
just like I was."
"The flowers...each one a perfectly shaped sculpture of God's majesty"
And of course, the excellent last line. I really don't know if I can be objective here, but I'll try. -
beautiful

AWW! sweet
This is very sweet. Some parts read like a poem and others not so much but the emotion really shows. Sweet dedication. Thanks for sharing.

Oh wow. Charity...this is exceptional. I read this..but more accurately...I FELT this. I think this is some of the best writing you've done. I'm absolutely enamoured with a few lines...dripping with imagery.
"The earth was covered with a soft, pillowy blanket of white...
Just like I was."
And then, the ending....the Hum of Heaven? Where'd you come up with that? It's just phonomenal. I love it, love it, LOVE IT! I'm so happy for you two lovebirds!!!!
