Ludwig Neuschwanstein

Reading about this King was fascinating. His penchant for creating inordinate beauty around him and his reclusiveness as well as the rest of his story is a very interesting read. The room portrayed in the banner image and in the background is so beautiful, haunting, serene and though rarely used by Ludwig is presereved for so many generations to see. His story in some odd way reminds me of a modern day Michael Jackson, so sad. See other photos inside this castle at the links provided below.

Neuschwanstein
Constructed 1869-1892

It is surely the most famous castle in the world — and, like its builder, one of the most misunderstood. Neuschwanstein castle is a structure of contrast, irony, and mystery — and beauty. When it was built, the castle was not known as Neuschwanstein. Ludwig II wrote his friend Richard Wagner in May 1868: “I intend to rebuild the old castle ruins of Hohenschwangau by the Pöllat gorge (Pöllatschlucht) in the genuine style of the old German knightly fortresses...”

He is known by many nicknames: the Swan King, the Mad King of Bavaria, the Dream King, and Mad Ludwig. Was “Mad King Ludwig” mad? This is only one of many mysteries that surround the former Bavarian regent to this day. Ludwig II (Ludwig Friedrich Wilhelm) has become one of the most legendary figures in Bavarian and German history, a history full of legendary figures.

He managed to finish only one of them: Linderhof. John and I were there this weekennd. Like all of his castles quite impressive! Especially the artifical grotto near the castle, that was build by Ludwig as his personal opera house, but never used. The Swan boat on the picture shows one kitsch element of it. SEE BANNER IMAGE ABOVE. IT IS THE OPERA HOUSE HE HAD BUILT.

I really love this background. It's gorgeous and really catches my eye while taking my breath away at the same time. The only problem I see here is the border due to the computer screen size. Gorgeous work.
