nights' cold breath
hits ally in the curve of her spine
& she curls away
in protest
her hair slides across the pillow,
soft snakes escaping
a nightmare
sofie holds her glass
like a lifeline,
knuckles pressed into the shape of regret
she watches
[without breathing]
& wonders
what her dreams taste like
on someone else's
tongue
on cue,
with a staggered breath,
sun spreads his wings -
an origami mouthful of light.
Author notes
something i tried to write for my 4unit english major.
it's not going as well as i hoped, really.
