Somebody told me you don’t need to fear
shadows, ‘cause it only means there’s a light nearby.
The next morning my friend took a bat to kill a deer
dieing in a pond not far from the accident on the roadside.
Somebody told me the world lays on my spine,
the origin of that statement lies solely upon me.
Inhaling the world - zero comprehension all the time.
Eye squeezing shut - in self-affliction there is no “we”.
I remember when she told me I should blast my brains.
Trying to erode my inward parts - she was the sad, wailing soul.
Telling me don’t be so sensitive - my thin skin wanes,
but incessant scaring will never make me whole.
Trying to look myself in the mirror to find a reason to breathe;
bleeding for them know, no one sees what I believe.

Author notes
This is a sonnet, rhyme scheme wise. I was inspired to write this piece when my friend told me he hit a deer. The accident, causing enough damage, incensed him enough to go back the next morning to pulverize the deer with a bat. Also, don't worry I'm not a cutter.
Ya dig?
