“beauty is what beauty does”

she was outstandingly beautiful
and she collected “freaks”
like seashells

perhaps she felt most
at home
with people
who were extraordinarily
different
a paradox of herself

therein she found real beauty

Author notes

This was inspired by the movie 'Fur'. I'm a little uncomfortable with the word "freak" but I can't think of another description without over complicating the poem. Fascinating pychological movie.
