street lamps
shining
comfortless tears
cover your cheeks
illuminated
salty sweat
on my brow
a beacon
weary walk
for cancer's
cure
Author notes
This is written about the 24 hour walk that happens every year for the American Cancer Society. There have been many people that I have known that have passed from cancer. I purchase and light a luminary in their honor. One of those people is my hero, Louie Bonpua who was not afraid to live. He trained for and completed an Ironman triathlon while undergoing treatment for leukemia. Meeting him and listening to what he had to say about life changed my life. He inspired me to do triathlon and he was the first person that I did triathlon in honor of. Shortly after I met him, he passed away and I still take runs out to visit him on the hillside.

wow, this is so deep. I am sorry for your loss of such a wondrful man, but to me it sounds like he had a wonderful life, he never did give up, and that is truly all that matters. Sadly cancer seems to be a major killer, it is something I wish a cure would be found for. All those who have cancer will truly appreciate this gift. It is very meaningful and it is a mountain when all was asked for was a simple hill. Very good and great emotion, and wonderful story line!

I like the way this is written. It pulled me in and I could picture it as I read it.
I have known several people who did the walk for cancer. Way to go! What a great way to honor those who have battled cancer!
