There's a bottle in the water,
What's it doing there?
I'll bet the fishes think
Its really quite unfair.
Did someone from a passing boat
Chuck it in the air?
Or did it use a river
To catch itself a ride?
Maybe its my bottle
But if that is true,
Its travelled for a long long way
And seen some lovely views.
I live near a river,
I know there 's bottles there,
So I wonder if floodwaters
Take bottles free of fare.
I can see it floating past
Farms and towns along the way
Taking in the scenery
We dream of every day.
It must have taken weeks
To get from here to there;
I wonder its not broken
Stuck in the mud somewhere.
But I saw it in a photo
So I'm really sure its there,
Somewhere in the ocean
Where the fish think its unfair.
Have you ever found a bottle in the ocean?

excellent poem, Bob. I like the question in this write. Those poor fish should be repected. They don't throw stuff on our land, do they? Just wondering though why one verse in the whole poem didn't have a rhyme. (did someone from a passing boat, chuck it in the air, or did it use a river, to catch itself a ride) Perhaps this was a purposeful write. Maybe i just read it wrong. Regardless i loved it to bits.

The lack of a rhyme in that line is simply an error by the writer. I had not even noticed it. Thanks for letting me know. I shall have to edit it to make a correction. I try to keep the patterns I use constant throughout the poem. Manys thanks for your encouraging remarks.

That's so cute! And lovely too... I could just see the bottle floating past wonderful sights... things we can only dream of seeing sometimes! Yes, I've found a bottle in the ocean... I hope there would be a letter in it, but sadly no!

Thank you my Kiwi friend, you have made my day. I'm so glad that I'm not the only one that dreams.
