“Hands full now, hearts full later”
she said to the outnumbered mater,
with knowing smile and laughing eye,
‘neath graying hair as she passed by.
I thought, “At least the first part’s true!
I feel like keeper of a zoo!
The rest may follow, we’ll just see;
Time will confirm or disagree.”
Now four are gone and five are grown,
and some have children of their own!
I’ve hugs and kisses, gummy grins,
laughter, dancing (I give spins!)
Prayers together, birthday cakes,
I sleep all night, no teething breaks!
Old gal could not have told me straighter –
“Hands full now, hearts full later!”
Author notes
mater: mother
straighter: more honestly

This flows smoothly. A joy to read. A lovely sentiment about the perqs of grandparenthood! We have just been blessed with our first grandchild and my conclusion is this is what it's all about!

Congratulations on a wonderful life event! Over the years, folks told me how great and exciting and fun it was to be a grandparent. Now that I'm there, all I can say is that it's even better than anyone could describe! I get giggles and gummy grins and snuggles, and THEN I get to sleep all night!!!
