Daisy

Batman, my brothers dog,
found you in the doghouse while he was visiting.
How long had you been out there?
I have no clue.
Had he not alerted me,
I might not have found your bones till the following spring.
Tick infested, a pitiful mess you were.
The wind was so cold and you were shivering, barely able to walk.
So sweet, my heart ached for your pain.
I brought you in out of the storm.
A hound dog, black, nothing but skin and bones, with a bum leg.
[One step] away from death......
After a couple of days, you regained some strength.
I took you to the shelter, in the ritzy neighborhood, where I work.
I lyed about where I found you so they would take you in.
They are my heroes, a non-kill facility.
The local shelter would have destroyed you immedialtey.
[That] 'is' what they do there.
When I checked on you a few days later,
they told me of your life story.
You were pregnant, starved, and dehydrated. Close to death!
A dislocated hind leg, an injury that had been for over a year,
it healed like that, buckshot scattered around your body.
As if that wasn't enough,
you had heartworms and not expected to live,
the treatment alone could kill you.
And still you were so sweet, and loving
with all that had been done to you.
They felt it too and said they would do their best.
I checked in, from time to time, and you improved with every day.
I knew I had left you in good hands.
A year went by when I stopped in again,
and they again told me the story of your life.
"Daisy", she was a sweet dog, full of love, had a rough few years.
  A living hell!
But after living through the heartworm treatment,
and the abortion to the pups she could not carry,
the surgery to remove the bullets and repair her leg,
and a year of rehabilitation to get her to use it again,
she was finally ready to move on.

And she found a home......

Another note. The purpose of brackets are to show when something has been omitted. They serve no purpose here except as a distraction.

Nice that she made it through it, sad that they had to abort the pups. Kind of weird that you chose to enter this in a contest that was against abortion too lol, but I somewhat understand.

Good on you for helping her out. Did she ever get adopted?

      And she found a home......

The pups would have died during the heartworm treatment. Her life was the first option. If she didn't live, then the pups would have died anyway. Abortion isn't always about money. Sometimes it is a necessity. The price for her life, was priceless. The shelter spent over $4,000, treating her and sending her to daily rehabilitation. To her, to us, it was well worth it. Her original owner was tracked down (from her collar), and he was pure scum...and had a dozen more dogs, chained, malnurished, in pitiful shape. What a shame it is that his mother didn't abort. They'll let anyone own kids and dogs.

it is good when there is a happy ending to a story like you have here, some life has nothing but pain for awhile but it does not last forever. a good heartfelt piece
