A parent’s poem to their daughter

A beautiful gift this little girl is,
Born into the world. to be held and to be kissed.

The months we spend, wondering what you will be,
Are gone in an instant, this new life we now see.

You’re young and fragile, small fingers clenched tight,
Your gentle breathing bequeaths joys and delights.

This world is vast, sometimes scary with fright,
But little child, do not worry, sleep through the long night.

I’ll hold you close, and with gentleness declare,
I love you more then all, your continence is fair!

I’ll protect you, guide you, and give you all that I hold close,
I’ll show you true love, self sacrifice, and give you run of the house!

Tiny now you are, totally dependent on me,
But don’t worry my love, I’ll take care of you, you’ll see!

I’ll give you the world, the moon and the stars,
And I’ll keep a close eye out for hunks with fast cars!

Before you were born I thought I knew what love was,
But until you arrived, I didn’t know what it was.

You’re mine, and I’m yours, until time draws to an end,
I’m your parent, your guardian, your love and your friend!

Welcome to this world, my bundle of joy!
May all your dreams come true, even that cute Barbie toy!
