Spanish Johnny

When  Spanish Johnny took a bullet in the head,
everything changed.
Cops started to come down on us.
The dope dried up,
Anthony and my brother joined the Navy.
Me and his brother hitched cross country;
California to learn how to surf, selling
what dope we had left along the way,
sticking up one or two Seven-Elevens,
breaking into a church in Texas;
just cause we could.

When Spanish Johnny took a bullet in the head
everything changed.
The mayor announced the people
were taking back the neighborhood,
stores started to stay open late,
shopper’s came in droves.
No one had to tell you.
It was time to go
When Spanish Johnny took that bullet in the head.

    this is a very interesting poem... it reminds me of this movie that was a bit odd and a bit vindictive, but exceptional acting and story line... i cant remember the name of it just now but has an all star cast. this poem has its own all star cast and really gave me a good view at another kind of life

    Very nice! I love how this whole poem says "Spanish Johnny" over and over again, but never mentions anything about him.

    Still, the fact that everything changes when Spanish Johnny does bite the dust, as I am assuming he does, things change then and only then.

    Very interesting. I just finished up a tale today that resonates with this fine piece of work.

    I am not a fan of punctuation in poems, but I found your style to be inviting.

    Thanks you very much for this,

    Blessings,

    C
