Everytime the weather got hot
We would walk to our swimming spot
The cool, muddy water of the south
refreshed my body and parched mouth
We'd make a run and jump off the rock
Plunging in the branch gave us a shock
The walk in the woods, down the dirt trail
Had our bodies sweaty and started to smell
We'd swim all day and sometimes at night
Anytime at the creek, to me was alright
Backing my truck down by the bank of the creek
under the stars with my girl, cheek to cheek
Nothing holds a candle to those better days
of Alabama Summers with the sun in my face
It felt so good, splashing in the murky stream
Later, lay out on a blanket, watch the clouds and dream
I have moved far from that place, but I'll never forget
Those times we spent in laughter while getting wet
Deep in dixie, every boy learns, not to swim in a pool
but to float in the branch off of the water dams, so cool

One of my few rules, was for all the pieces in this contest to be left aligned... I didn't have many rules at all... so I do wish that people would just take some time to read the rules ....
I do like this piece and although I am not a fan of rhyming poetry, I think you did a pretty good job here, without falling into too many cliches
many thanks for entering this contest
