Right on schedule

A fiance, wife-to-be,
Dies on an airline flight,
Deprived of needed oxygen.

No memories of childbirth,
No chasing after kids,
No hustling them off to school,
No athletic events, No graduations,
No birthdays, No holidays,
No warm family meals or gatherings,
No grandkids, family pyramids...

Just a heartbroken young man, without words -
And another excuse from another airline,
Chasing dollars, delivering death,
Right on schedule.

Author notes

Just heard on the news about a woman who died, after she needed oxygen, and an airplane had two tanks, both empty, so she could not get the needed O2. Airline claimed they were full.

    Good job.

Congrats on that Gold. I've been here for years and only have about 55 of them. You've got three after a month or so. Pretty impressive.

"Airline claimed they were full." Sue them.
Your poem makes clear the value of every life cut short by accident or negligence. That middle stanza is heart wrenching. Well done, and congratulations for a gold trophy - and a great social statement.

      Thanks

I had to write something about it after seeing the news item, especially when they were interviewing the young man, and he could barely speak.

      Nope

It was something I saw on the news, but heartbreaking all the same! Thanks for your kind thoughts, though.

    So bitter...

So lacking in the traditional techniques of poetry as we have come to learn and accept...

    ...

But far more powerful than I could have hoped for.

Thank you very much for this entry.
