Saturday Morning with Annie

We meet in quiet places

a crowd streams by

I find her scent

before she knocks

A Soft embrace

simple family cheek kisses

Our eyes meet and lock

I sigh and Annie smiles

she gazes out, my eyes follow

We wrap each other’s shawl

without touching

On the path we walk

talking without speaking

the woods sing to us

I hear her soul stretch and open

Over long stretches

crackling leaves are our sounds

You see, Annie and I

are girl friends

the same bodies,

in locked step

When we cry,

we reach deep into ourselves

and embrace our love

as no other

For when we cry,

it is of joy

even when sadness fills the air

 When parted, I feel her

pain before she shares

I am April, Annie

is my friend forever

delightedly, we quietly share

Saturday mornings

Author notes

"The loneliest woman in the world is a woman without a close woman friend."

Some friendships reach a place where little is spoken and the level of familiarity is so high that communication is through glances and nods.  April and Annie have achieved that level of trust and caring that is rarely accomplished.

Saturday mornings are their time to commune in quiet reflection and appreciation for their friendship, a day of sanctuary!

A contest entry

Would it be different if we found a life friend who we longed to be with for hours without speaking or touching?

I truly love this. I’m sad though that you didn’t write about your own friendship… or at least the authors comments made it seem that way. This is very soft and kind, so tender and beautiful. I love the thought of speaking without words. I know that I have experienced this with my closest girlfriends. It’s a bond, that is beyond the sight of those who look on, wondering, “what can be so funny” because neither one spoke, but the joke was still told, you know?

    Nicely done.

What a beautiful friendship you describe in this poem. It would be wonderful to share time with someone and just enjoy the silence without feeling the need to make conversation. You must be a very sensitive fellow to know how a friendship between two women should be.

This is beautiful and written from a dedicated and loving heart. I feel the compassion, and the passion written here. Life is so much more simple than we often complicate it to be. Your poem shares that with the reader. A delicate show of love, trust and adoration. I wish you well in the challenge.

Please forgive me not understanding your message last evening. I was a bit fatigued and confused. LOL

    Much Love & Respect ♥
