Sugar coated finery, there but not able to grasp
just resting in the hallowed glass jar
with everyone gazing in utter disbelief
as the sign in front reads,” only for one cent”
Children begin to beg and plead
incessantly wailing until they receive the source of their hostility
in the form of wondrous chocolate covered heaven
smothered in a peanut butter dream
now stained upon teeth of gold
remaining there until their next meal

Thanks for the entry - I wish you all the best!

This really makes an impact. The image of the children sort of seeps into the psyche and you can't help but to feel the whole deal here.

Very cute write you have penned here. I remember going to the penny candy store as a young child, such a joy it was.
