Love Lived and Lost

Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete?
In the world's broad field of battle,
Like leaves on an autumn forest floor
The Fountains mingle with the river and the rivers with the ocean

I remember you as you were in the last autumn
Earth has not anything to show more fair
But friendship's pure and lasting joys
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high

Offering you space to place new steps of change
Turn adversity into ambition
The knowledge of love, is like sudden sun upon a river
and like streams that branch away from a river

I know that with each other we can make ourselves whole.
love strikes away the chains of fear from our souls.
Only the jeweler knows the value of the jewel
And yet, by heaven, I think of my love as rare

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where
What weeks, what months, what time of the mild year
I seem to have loved you in numberless forms, numberless times
Star shine, moon glow, you're all that I can call my own.

Beautiful and rich is an old friendship
When by the bitter cares of life oppressed
And very lonesome, very sad of heart
Is love a pleasure or a pain in mask

Love is a breach in the walls, a broken gate
Where the quiet-coloured end of evening smiles,
When I dream that you love me, you'll surely forgive
Strength and spirit again, with life receding

I have forgotten your love, yet I seem to glimpse you in every window
you are the omega of my heart
I exist in the depths of solitude
when my heart can beat no more

All time lay rolled in me, and sense, and love that knew not its beloved
My heart to joy at the same tone; and all I loved, I loved alone.
something remains, drawing us into the light of life
Love is so short and oblivion so long.

My heart aches, and a drowsy numbness pains
I reach deep into my lonely mind and carve out a full moon
Your love taught me to grieve
I do not love you except because I love you

Do you come to me to bend me to your will
the deep twin landscapes of your eyes
I shall walk with frost and fire and death and snow
Here I love you and the horizon hides you in vain.

The ocean heaves around us still
hoping to gain the perfect pearl of the formless
It knows no resting and knows no yielding
The cloudless day is richer at its close

Just as on the cool stone of the spring, the water
You are like a pale purple flower in the blue spring dusk
Te amo como la planta que no florece y lleva
dentro de sí, escondida, la luz de aquellas flores

ok, so whatever i say is going to pale in comparison of what some of the others have said. Yet i feel i have to say something. This was amazingly done. the way you pieced these all together they all meshed perfectly. It was like two hearts beating at the same pace, you dont know where one line starts and the other begins. Beautiful job. congrats on the gold =] definitely deserved it!

OMG Criss, This is absolutely amazing how you made this flow like it was written line for line by you at the time of posting it. Isn't it something how we can find such beauty in the words of others or ourselves from times past and create such a heavenly scene with them? You most definitely did that here and I congratulate you for this richly deserved gold trophy as much as I thank you for sharing the beauty of your heart and pen with all of us. Kudos for you a million times over here. You made my piece pale in comparison to your words here. Trying to pick my jaw up off of the floor right now!!! Love you my friend, Joyce

Back for the last read before judging.
Are the links here in the right order? I clicked on the first 8 links and they didn't take me to right lines (assuming they were following line/link to poem order).
This is just an observation, your cento still reads very well!!

I don't doubt you dear Criss I saw that they are just mixed up. Example: link #1 Neruda, line 1 Tupac - and the link to Tupac came as link #5. Don't break your head, I saw the links are there, just thought you'd like to know they aren't in order

I am a little bit special sometimes! Thank you! If I had known they were out of order this whole time, I would have changed it =) thank you dear!

I am overwhelmed by your patience and by the results of your efforts. A poem of this length that holds the reader by its message and coherent thought is hard enough BUT to do it with the pickings of other peoples work is amazing.
    Well done and good luck.

Absolutely wonderful! To write a cento that long requires a lot of patiences and time. Now to write one as you did, requires also a special feeling to keep the poem flowing so well as this one did.
The lines in Spanish followed the rhythm and meaning and added a beautiful touch to the cento.
Thank you so much for your time and for this excellent work

The best thing I think is how you sustained the emotion, kept it like one voice to one subject when it fact it was what" 50 or more poets on the same amount of topics...there's skill right there.

50 to 100 lines is a lot of work and I already know you spent a lot of time on it, but it paid off as a lovely tribute to all the facets of loving.

I'm glad you entered the contest.

What an enchanting work of love and poetry. You have worked tirelessly on this Cento my dear poet. You know that I know how hard they can be to compile. I must say, for your first Cento, you achieved the 100 lines that a true Cento is formed by, and created magic. You also gave our sister site some much needed attention. This is a stunning work of literature, and I for one am exceedingly proud of what you've composed here. I know you will do well in the challenge. I have one I am working on as well for Mari's challenge. These forms take a lot of time so, I highly commend what you've done here.

    Absolutely stunning!

    BRAVO!
