Unaware

Did you know, that
in the soft, circular closure of your fist
you hold my heart, ever beating?

that the sighs which escape your lungs
as you drift into the dancing shadows of sleep
were from my own lung?

and even in the slumbering of moonlight-
of dreams half broken, of life half lived
it is simply you
who beats the summoning drum in my chest

the tempo is one I want to dance to
with you
till those shadows of sleep
          -of glowing slumber
smother the sighs from my lung
and vanquish that summoning drum

Author notes

One of my favorite poets is Pablo Neruda, and I feel his presence in this write. Love...in all its splendour

love the image of the "summoning drum". you have such a beautiful, simple eloquence .... very fluid and at ease with having a giving attitude towards life. your writing shows how life is so precious because of its delicate nature. thanks.
