An Astonishing Sight

I awake to the smell of lavender and honeysuckle
instantly I am alert that something is changed
I spring to my feet
and my knees don't pop or crack
my back isn't hurting
and for the first time in years
I have no pain in my head

yes something is changed
I reach for my glasses
but suddenly realize
I don't need them
my eyes are working just fine
perhaps I am dreaming
that's it, I am not even awake

I chuckle out loud
wait...
I just heard myself laugh
I must be awake

I open the blinds
and there before my very eyes
is the most astonishing sight
no longer is my yard where I left it the night before
but in it's place is now
the most beautiful garden filled with all my favorite things

flowers, plants, creatures and loved ones
and sitting right smack in the middle of them all
is none other than...
Jesus

boy i wish i could wake up and not have back pain without having to die first....

so, on a spiritual note, this is a solid piece. i think the language could use a little shot of creative juice, but the imagery here is strong, a sort of incredulous feel. it's actually an unintentional insight into society's belief that when we die, if there is an afterlife, it will be perfect and all our problems of the physical world will be alleviated. in that sense, i find this poem to be very revealing. thanks for entering!!!
