The Seeing of Dreams

The cherry blossoms
Float and weave downstream
And in the slow-darkening current,
As the sun sinks and the stars wink,
My sight adjusts inward; And I dream.

I dream the sun, rising
In pale orange horizons.
On the banks of the river, life stirs;
Warm burrows of noses and unfolding roses,
Bathed in a tremulous, gossamer sun.

Warmth creeps, again,
Through joints and nests,
The blush-sway of leaves lifting eyes.
Perfectly frayed, in nature's own way;
Flickering, blazing, these strangers to rest.

The peacock, the heron,
Tiny movement of breeze
Breathes out over meadows, and rolls
Down valley and fen, cooling new-baked bread,
Village of beauty; filtered only by me.

Oh, shame on me, here;
Sad unseeing child,
Forever rushing in fail to take pause,
Depressingly fretting and ever digressing
From that which is free to enfold and beguile.

So I dream, basked in warm,
While my eyes open wide to the sun.
And sometimes, I wake still remembering
Fading light still burns, retina-bright;
I must cherish this gift, 'til a new dream's begun.
