" A Life in Your Hands"

Missing image
The price of a pet is a tangible thing
and you're buying a life more than anything.
Kids, at Easter, want bunnies and chicks,
but soon lose interest when they get sick.

Kittens chase strings and we laugh at that,
but soon, they'll grow up to be lazy and fat
and maybe they don't want to play anymore
but they still need your love, just like before!

Puppies are precious in so many ways,
but dogs are in shelters and S.P.C.A.'s
Be it gerbil or hamster; canary or snake,
they all have a life and a home you must make.

Love them and treat them with kindness and care.
Remember that you invited them there!
So, before you go shopping to bring home a pet,
it's a "Life in your Hands"--Please Never Forget!

I have 5 animals 4 dogs and 1 cat. Everytime I see an animal suffer I cry. This poem captures exatly what I wnated in the topic animal. I was wondering how many people would put something that shows every on the importance of an animals life. You have a trophy. I just don't know which one yet. Bravo. I fell in love with this poem.

Thanks you for entering this amazing piece.

I so agree with all that you have written
It paints a sorry story though
Maybe people putting messages in poems will change a few things.

This was fantastic. I totally agree with you here, we just recently adopted a pet from our local animal shelter and it was the best thing that we ever did. He is a big, fat cat but so incredibly lovable. Too many of them down there though. We were just looking at bunnies today too. How funny. Great work and good luck

Oh! I LOVE this. It's exactly what I wanted. In fact, if I could have your permission... I'd like to put it up on my website: http://www.poltickles.com/frogcity

Of course, I won't have your name to credit until the contest is over, but I would wait 'til then to put it up and credit you however you'd like most.

The rhyming is really nice and I like that you covered a variety of pets. Great message. Good work!

These are admirable thoughts to put across and you did it so very nicely. Your use of rhyme always feels so natural. Best wishes in the contest.
