Soft velvet wings
as if touching silk.
Delicate body and legs
fragile to the touch.
The beauty of a butterfly
sometimes seems to much.
Orange, yellow, purple and black
when admiring, sometimes taken aback.
The true beauty emerges toward the end of life
for that is when they can take flight.
Peace and harmony surround this brilliant creature
that is one of their attractive features.
A flower blooming early in Spring
opening and emerging
as if wanting to sing.
Soaring through the sky
brilliant and secure.
The most amazing part of their allure.
As their lives come to an end
their delicate bodies dwindle
it's their time to die
as the chain of life begins again.

Myst, Being so in love with butterfies, This poem gave me shivers. I can see why it won gold! The flying life of a butterfly is so very short. yet every summer, we watch them kiss all the garden flowers. HAve you ever been to the Butterfly Room at the San Diego Zoo? What an experience I will never forget. Hundreds flying all around, and knowing that soon they will expire. I went there for three days in a row, and watched them come to life, die, and come 'round again. This poem captures EXACTLY what I experienced. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Love you!
Shana
