I'm going back someday

Missing image

We skipped
in gum boots
and pin striped straws
that left our lips
only long enough to twirl

with the wind ~

and like the afternoon shadows
we traced
puppets and invisible strings
up and down each others smile ~

You sang the bayou
and I became dizzy
from homestead excitement
and grandma's bread
that traveled the distance
to bring us back ~

awoken softly

             through yesterday...

ah, i remember the smell and the sounds of the bayou. the echoing cries of my neighbors speaking Lousiana Creole. I remember the old days of clean country smells, and in the deep south were the food was our soul. thank you for your entry. good luck. FINALIST.

Ah memories...now you've got me remembering those days long ago that can never return but through something that elicits the memory. And that is what your poem did, which in itself is proof of its skill I think.

I'm not the judge, (and I'm generally a lousy judge at that, lol) but I think this poem has a good shot at winning the competition, good luck.
