Briers weave walls, fractured by scars rasping memories,
suffocating youth, and manipulating its frailties.
Splintering, giggling melodies disengage luster,
peeling porcelain follicles from child and mother.
Bedbugs burrow beneath strewn straw pallets,
biting shame's deceit, and spawning like rabbits.
Joy, bundled in burlap sacks play silent and still,
as father lays to rest life, he loses his will.
Now without child, morning becomes a single ray,
for all that was alive... has passed away.
Wagon wheels lay still in tracks, polarized in a barn,
while mother and father crouch outside... and mourn.
Shoes... unlaced, worn and dusty... whisper in the wind,
never to leap, climb and romp in puddles of mud again.
How can I stop crying... Lord knows I am trying,
but each and every second of breath... inside I am dying.
Heaven fell from the sky, and every ocean fell from my eyes,
I can't stand the pain inside, or handle these... goodbyes.
