My eyes wear shields, guarding against Sandman's dusted sprinkles as moonlight peaks through blinds with a sigh of another sleepless night. Meditation falls short in becoming the doorway to dreams and my bed is beat with every toss and turn. My thoughts spin a web, tangling me in memories I thought I escaped only to find myself choking on the luster of silken fibers frayed.
Years of faded memories drift pass and I wonder still, of those times when things seemed much simpler. A time when memories didn't lurk in the shadows, searching for a vulnerable moment; simply laying in wait to strike. Unlike the snake that rattles before it bites, preemptive attacks don't come with warnings.
And I realized, how funny it is that the cracks in the ceiling play as a numbered distraction from the camera's flash, just another moment in time captured to dwell upon later...
Author notes
So many thoughts running in my mind and rather than attempting to mold them into a poem I thought I would try prose instead.

interesting and complex thoughts have the tendency to asphyxiate a person... especially when one has been out hunting waaaaayyyyy toooooo long.

What a metaphor is spun in these words;
"My thoughts spin a web, tangling me in memories I thought I escaped only to find myself choking on the luster of silken fibers frayed."
Beautiful, haunting but beautiful!
In you second paragraph (first line), the word should be time[s].
You did exceedingly well with this prose. You know this insomniac can totally relate to what is written here. You might need a sleep aid darling. You need to get some rest. My doctor suggest turkey an hour before bed. I bought a pound of turkey loaf yesterday, made me a sandwich around 11:00 PM, was sleep by midnight. Whether it's psychological or it really works, it worked! LOL
Get some rest my love. Your prose is lovely!
Always ♥

I've spent many nights similar to this, watching time swirl through the mind, the emotions flooding, retracting, then becoming overwhelming until it seems the dust of fabric even breathes and taunts. You did a heck of a great job on this. I love prose myself and this one is excellent. It just sucks you in and makes you feel it. I love the ending too
Awesome Bel!
