We have these dogs at our farm,
In numbers there are three;
Penny the pound dog, Taffy the toff,
And Pete, who follows me.
We check the cattle ev'ry day
"Cause working dogs they'll be;
I'm the one who does the work,
They are overseers,you see.
I open the gates, fix the fence,
Wash out the water troughs,
I look at every single cow,
Examine each one that coughs.
They sit in front, so nice and neat,
No movement do they make
Until they see a kangaroo,
All three then make a break.
When at home I choose to stay,
They care for ducks and chooks.
Our friends think its kind of strange
And give us funny looks.
Dogs do like a walk, rain or shine
We must go walking,too
No matter what we've got on
What chores are still to do.
So when they do at last lay down,
Relax with a real big sigh,
Tippy toe round for just a while,
Please, let sleeping dogs lie.

Fantastic poem. I loved it. It was funny and very very sweet. I could the dogs as they were out there with you doing all that work. You showed what great companions they are and how loyal they will always be. A great title and a great ending. I do love the first verse though, that was very catching. Well done, Bob. Now that I've discovered that show all gives me a lot more, I'm going to be very busy on all my favourites.

Dogs! I am in what we call the office, those lovable hounds are lying on the floor beside me and under the desk where I should put my feet. I appreciate your comments on my stuff as you always give a real comments. Not just "how cute" or something like that. I think all writers like to know a bit about how their work affects you as a reader. My own commenting is not up to scratch but I'm working on it. Thank you so much. I also enjoy our chats.
Cheers
Bob

Animals have been a part of my life as afr back as I can remember. These three sit on the floor in what we call the 'office' and help Lis and I to write. Being winter now its warmer there than outside anyway. Thank you for your comments. ((((hugs to you too))))

i think people forget that one of the most important jobs dogs do for us is just being there, and so its lovely to see that you haven't forgotten and appreciate that.
your dogs sound lovely and a lot calmer than my manic four lol.

They do, don't they? Lie around, I mean. But not before you take those 'working dogs' out in the truck! We just don't get any peace until they go out 'working'

This is a lovely poem, and folks, it's all true!

It is necessary to "open the day" with a trip around the farm with the dogs. After that we can all have a peaceful time for the rest of the day. They are wonderful dogs.

I like this Bob. It has a lovely 'feel' about it.' Man's best friend'
isn't description enough for a working dog. Your love for your dogs shines through in every line. Enjoyed very much.
