Claiming the Will

Missing image

I chant my humbling prayer:

Give me strength

as Iplunge into His chalice

avoid the sentry’s piercing

smother the deafening clang

of despicable chastising screeches

cover the Hill’s chill,

the icy fingers

of one hand clapping

 I must not lose vision

so many have pledged

so little time to find

so little fortune will shine

I must possess serenity

the clarion is tolling

a sweet promise of Hope

as Yesterday screams

it’s vile rebukes

harping my every move

As I gird my loins with

courage requiting

despair, smothered angerand

demeaning ignorance

The Children must learn of

Hope and Love

of soft and tender

I bow to my task and accept the coming specter

I will champion honor

I will not surrender

Author notes

I was tempted to enter Az's contest on dead beat fathers, but that would have run me over the top.  Instead I have accepted her charge in this contest and hopefully, have penned an entry that describes the acceptance of the will to pick up the sword and shield of a noble, honorable warrior for our children and their futures.

We must be the change we want to see in the world.
-- Mahatma Gandhi

A contest entry

Who will pick up the challenge and run the gauntlet in the circle of evil for our children's sake?

This could very well be an oath to guide everyone in this world where children are victims of such cruel acts of humanity. What an interesting presentation! Written so that the phrases stand out individually, so very well done! Another thing, it reads very well backwards...masterful!
