In some dream I was alone
On some mountain range, crying
There were animals moving like clouds
They seemed to remain still,
But after a few moments
They were gone…
And all that was left was a hole where they stood
I stood up but could not see over the trees
I wanted desperately to see the world,
So I climbed the branches—chipping bark off of them with my bare feet
The wood broke and made the sound of crunching glass
My feet hurt, and I felt splinters sliding under my skin,
I continued higher and found myself wrapped in a cloud
The threads of soft cotton webbed around me, catching me
The cloud dragged me up, away from the tree tops and into the sky
I was so lonesome…
I pulled out a watch but couldn’t tell the time
It was just a blur and so I tossed it down to the earth
And I heard a voice,
It said something I found insignificant,
“Your house is where we will want all things to be…
…And when they arrive you will pack them away”
…I’m told souls are born in the water,
Barely beneath the cool stream of a snow capped mountain
And they die in the wind,
Carried away by a steady, warm breath
I am still asleep, still beneath the water, waiting for a body…
