Flavors

Taste the flavor; live for today
Before it fades and leaves your way
There’s nothing much but to savor
Live for today; taste the flavor.

Sometimes life gives a salty treat
You find your rhythm off the beat
In your damaged soul, worry lives
A salty treat; sometimes life gives.

At other times, life turns out sour –
Waking up in a dragging hour
And writing poems with obscure rhymes.
Life turns out sour, at other times.

Life’s at its worst when it’s bitter
Every place is full of clutter
You feel like you’re going to burst
When it’s bitter, life’s at its worst.

Life’s also good – a sweet delight
If you take time to search the light
In the middle of a dark wood.
A sweet delight, life’s also good.

While you’re still here, enjoy your life
Joy never lasts but so is strife
Swallow each flavor without fear
Enjoy your life while you’re still here.

Author notes

prompt: "Take your time, don't live too fast.... Troubles will come and they will pass."

The Swap Quatrain was created by Lorraine M. Kanter.
Within the Swap Quatrain each stanza in the poem must be a quatrain (four lines) where the first line is reversed in the fourth line. In addition, line 2 must rhyme with line 1, and line 3 must rhyme with line 4 and so on, BUT not repeat the same rhyming pattern on subsequent stanzas. Rhyming pattern: AABB, CCDD, and so on.

A skillfully crafted swap quatrain. Good flow, rhyme and tone. Nice depth of feeling. You express the flavors of live very well in this piece. Very nice contrasts. Good word choice, nice alliteration and assonance. Nice closing verse. Well penned and much enjoyed. Best wishes in the contest.
