we always planted corn
in the wash
of a full moon
one drumbeat for each
fire dragons lit
dancing feet,
he prayed for tides,
rain and sun
we got withered,
drought and moonshine mirages
my daffodils face east,
roses to the west
and Daddy's promise of growth
falls on deaf soil
angry words planted
underneath beauty
all my life

I love this piece. You have unique word choices which is always good. I love the whole 'deaf soil'. Best wishes in the contest you have entered....May God bless.

The last verse says so much. The heart loves the sun but more its wants in roots planted in a fierce and strong love. Beautifully written my dear.

I'm going to say what I think it means, I could be completely off but for some reason I feel you are saying what you have experienced has made you stronger, but that's such a small part of it. Almost every poem mentions it. Sounds painful and gray but beautiful, kind of like a cloud. Good work, I love how it sways down.
