Gently Vittorio returned my hand to me, my eyes briefly flickered over his, then returned to hold that icy gaze. I opened my mouth to speak, but found that words would not come to me, my tongue felt fat and heavy in my cheek, and as I closed then opened my mouth again, a slow gurgling emitted from my bowels, all the things I wanted to say flowing out in one incoherent moan. One perfect eye brow cocked, and a marble esque nose twitched to life, my breath caught within my chest, heart began to hammer, and I pressed my hand to my chest trying to smother the sound. He could hear it, but worse I knew he could feel it, like tremors jutting down his spine connecting his consciousness to my physical demeanor.
" So....now what?" A light breeze stirred the ivory drapes, revealing a vast and sparkling sea stretching out across the horizon and fading into the sunlight. Vittorio smiled at me, his angelic face contorting into something even more beautiful, if that was even possible.
" How about we get you changed so we can dine" The velveteen softness of his voice enclosed around me, wrapping me up in his words. I stammered softly, focusing hard to break his glamour, I was angry with Vittorio, so angry... but why? My mind wouldn't function and the sweetness of his breath tempted me, oh the fruit of Eden, my serpentine, I won't give in to you.
" How about you tell me what's going on, then we can discuss other details." The words tasted sweet, the sense of vindication overwhelmed me, and I surged with power I didn't even know if I had. Vittorio eyed me sheepishly, I stared him down as a ravenous wolf, unyielding and feral.
" Well, where to start really?" The sunlight glimmered over his honeyed hair, causing it to shine in the sunlight, I couldn't look away.
"Start at the beginning....." The words barely tumbled out, and my eyes hadn't moved from him.
" This isn't easy for me, you must understand" His words grew thin and wispy, his eyes cast downwards, I knew whatever he was about to say was very important.
" Many years ago, before the stars were sewn into the sky and before the forests learned to whisper, there were two feuding factions. These factions were once great men, who were presented with the opportunity to shed their mortal skin and don a less permeable one, literally the chance of a lifetime." Vittorio smiled upon saying the last word as if it held a special meaning for him, I leaned in closer to hear him better, the fabric of my dress rubbing against his leg.
" This proposal offered them power that was not limited to the capacities of humankind, and also granted them with immunity from morality and the crippling effects of age. But, to gain this prerogative they had to forsake that which meant most to them, their families, their homes, and their souls. They were forced to chose between eternity and their life, by taking this proposal they had to die."
" And who gave them this ultimatum?" My throat choked over the words, my stomach clenching tightly, and I felt the room spin.
" Who else but he that would take claim over our souls? We signed contract with Lucifer and became the forsaken children of God."
" What do you mean 'we' were you one of them?"
" Yes, I was one of the initial few.....Now, half of us were given the kiss of the devil, and with his forked tongue he gave us an eternity of blood lust, we became vampires. Lucifer also created another creature, just as strong just as cunning, this way there would always be a balance of power, and one would never hold too much sway over the mortal world. His second children heard the song of Lilith, and at first they appeared no different than we, but as the silvery moon rose from the hilltops in a full orb, they shifted and changed into something feral. Soon they found they could change at will, these men became Lycanthropes, were wolves as your society has come to call them, although they take on full wolf form, not that monstrosity depicted in Hollywood films. Once changed, we found ourselves alone, with hundreds of questions about what we had become and how we were to survive.
Lucifer left us with nothing, though it has been argued his first creations were always his most favored, for though they were supposed to be just as strong as the Lycanthropes, they seemed to excel far past expectations. This gift of power led the Lycans to grow angry and jealous of the Vampires, who, with rue did become arrogant and almost regal in their actions. Ever since that night, the two have been at ends, a constant war for power wages between them, and peace can never be reached. All of us who were there that night feel the consequence of our choice like a dagger to the heart, and everyday of our eternity must we live with the realization that we have sired a world of monsters....." The rapture and illumination that once stretched over the lamb like features of his face had grown shadowed and empty over the span of his monologue. I licked my lips nervously in anticipation, but still did not understand how I tied into any of his story. I cast my eyes away from him, I couldn't stand to see him look so forlorn, I felt something brush against my arm, cold and hard..his hand. I looked up into his eyes curiously, bursts of sunlight filtered through the ice of his irises, breath failed me as he moved closer, was this real? Am I dreaming? I studied the face of a marble man before me, a perfect sculpture of God, and yet how ironic that I should see this heavenly creature who fell from grace. Closer now, this can't be false, I tried to push him out of my senses, his smell, his taste. I felt his hand against my neck, his breath heavy against my cheek, eyelashes lacerating my flesh. His eyes closing gently, the space between us closing, he leaned in to kiss me.
