Remote Control

Like hand held devices I use to change the scene
Mind’s sometimes in remote, am I in a dream?
Thoughts are flashing everywhere, propelling me
All the visions, the thoughts clicking what’s inside of me

Want to stop, I’m in remote
No joke folk, I’m as shaky as can be
Want to rock it outside of me
Being in remote's not where I wanna be

Too many channels, way too many screens
Bombarded by things out side o’ me
Alarms are sounding, please get me some pills
I’m confused & feeling rather ill

People and faces rushing up to me
Making me crazy, they all want a piece of me
Places are calling to which I want to flee
The kids and the judge are looking now for me

Like hand held devices I use to change the scene
Mind’s sometimes in remote, am I in a dream?
Thoughts are flashing everywhere, propelling me
All the visions, the thoughts clicking what’s inside of me

Like hand held devices I use to change the scene
Being in remote’s not where I wanna be

Author notes

So much in life is remote control now. Pay particular attention to the fact that we need to make sure our brains are not that way as well!

How'm I doin'?

    interesting

Haha. It's good, but you try to rhyme by restating the same word, like "me, and me." That's not always bad, but it doesn't help the poem flow.

This reminds me a lot of the movie Click, where Adam Sandler has a remote control that he can use to control his life so he mostly puts it on fast forward but by the end of the movie, he realizes that he's wasted so much of his life. I think we all get like that from time to time, so sucked into this feeling of wanting to get to the good part that we miss the present. I like the proverb about how impatience is the lack of knowing what you're supposed to be doing in the present. You're right though, being in remote is not where anyone should want to be, and I'm glad you've made this distinction for yourself! Congrats on a well crafted poem that really speaks to the heart of an important philosophical issue that effects us all.
