WHAT?!?!?
I just checked a contest i'm in.
The preliminary finalists were chosen and guess what?
MY POEM HASN'T BEEN VIEWED BY THE JUDGE!
If you're gonna make a contest make it fair for all the entrants!
Don't just give the points to your friends!
OTHER PEOPLE PUT WORK INTO THIS AND YOU'RE NOT EVEN GONNA LOOK AT IT!?!?!??!?
I MEAN SERIOUSLY!!
AFTER THEY ENTER IT INTO YOUR CONTEST THEY CAN NEVER ENTER IT AGAIN EXCEPT AS A FRIGGIN PREWRITE!!!!
AND EVERYONE KNOWS THERE ARE A LOT LESS OF THOSE THAN THERE ARE OF NEW WRITE CONTESTS!!!!!!!!!!!
YOU PEOPLE THAT DECIDE WITHOUT READING ALL OF THE ENTRIES ARE HORRIBLE!!!
IT'S MUSE AND ARTISTIC VISION WASTED!!!!!
PEOPLE POUR THEIR SOULS INTO THEIR WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's happened to me many times as well...While it's true that the host can't judge until all entries have been read, it's frustrating to feel like your work is undervalued. I hope things get better.

The preliminary finalists is to allow for easy access to the favourite entries, and is also useful in showing people exactly what form/style/language/etc the host is looking for. Its impossible to close and judge a contest without at least viewing all the entries.
But, I get what your saying. There are some biased judges on this site. True, most contests are anonymous, but there are many ways around that, even for free members.
Interesting rant, hope you go better in contests. -
i completely agree with this...if people only want to give points to their friends, then donate them instead of wasting other peoples time holding contests...or if you're too damn lazy to be fair and judge all the entries, then dont hold contests!
you should definitely report this to the moderators or something and see if anything can be done about stopping this!!
great reant, hopefully it increases awareness on the site so people stop doing this and making it unfair to others! -
It's happened to me, too, and it seems that those contest hosts are rigging the contests so that their friends can win instead of doing what contests are meant to do. They should reward the best poem and consider them all equally. When I host contests, I view the poems multiple times, even in larger contests. It's not fair to judge otherwise.
Then again, when I judge contests, if I come across a poem I really like, I add it to the finalists lists just for easier access to it (and that doesn't mean it'll even win). That doesn't mean I've finished reading/commenting.
Great points, here.

I completely agree. Sometimes I put preliminary finalists up before I've read all of the poems just to remember the ones I liked, but I ALWAYS read and comment them all before I choose the winners. I hope you find a fair contest in the future!

A strong rant here. Can't say that I blame you. Others need to read this and understand that it is wrong.
