Abu Ghraib

A place where Allah cannot see the lewdness of love's war,
For here I am a useless dog, obtesting on the floor.
I feel submissive in your presence, squalid, worthless waste,
I'm bound and gagged between two stretchers, down to hell I'm faced.
Abu Ghraib is where I am, this love has me restrained,
I'm penitent, demeaned, repentant, mortified and shamed.
All I did was steal your love and now I've been detained,
You've urinated veneration, now my heart is stained.
Wires piercing through my flesh, you've beaten me with poles,
The poles you use to fly your flags that stand in bullet holes.
I'm an inmate, you're a soldier walking on my back,
You laugh to know I love you as you hear my back bones crack.
Just because you know I care, you tease me like a child,
Sending all my senses burning, blindfolded and wild.
Pure consumption, inclination while Charles Graner looks
He watches love pervert my heart and cleave my soul with hooks.
I know I'm not the only one who's fallen slave to this,
For we're a human pyramid of bodies crushed by bliss.
Tormented by my love for you, officials do not care,
All they do with broken hearts is ridicule and stare.
I am now Al-Jamadi, and you are with thumbs-up,
The photos of my corpse will render lovers to give up.
Tabloids say it's all a fake, agree or disagree
But Abu Ghraib is where I am when you are here with me.

This is an amazing idea rendered like a true master. You see the other side of the issue, and I respect that. I keep rereading this to try and find something to critize, but I can't find anything!

oh, and to the ignorant person(ZaOrion) who commented previously, I understand your loss, but don't take it out on those who have nothing to do with it!!!!

What a haunting metaphor. But it's exactly what I expect from you- always original and politically infused. Great stuff.

I can't even believe that comment below me. Some people cannot pick up on metaphors, huh?

    Good luck in the contest!!

What an interesting comparison using two very unlike things. I'm intrigued. Also, you've once again chosen a very controversial topic...Abu Ghraib. What a sad show of my country...I was ashamed to see those pics, but I have to remind myself that what those soldiers did is not representative of America or her military as a whole, but rather an unfortunate isolated incident. I like the idea behind your poem, but I don't particularly like the exploitation of AG to accomplish it. Thanks for sharing.
