I hear choppers,
They’ll make a pass,
Defensive positions,
In the grass.

There he is,
Cobra red
Put out some smoke
Hes overhead.

There’s the blue,
To evac our stick,
Be alert men,
Protect the slick.

Stay awake,
He’s coming down.
Hustle when he,
Touches down.

Lay down cover fire,
Into the trees,
Try to knock out,
any RPGs.

We all fall back,
My face like chalk,
Fear has kicked in,
I start to talk.

We reach the slick,
It’s hard to hear,
Blaylock boosts us,
From the rear.

We dusted off,
We’re in the air,
Small arms fire coming,
From some where.

The gunner’s bursts,
Are raining down,
To hit those shooting,
From the gound.

There’s Blaylock,
Sitting on his pot,
Protecting his butt,
From a lucky shot.

The men in the stick,
I’m sure all knew,
If you fell behind,
He’d come back for you.

This Iron Man,
Of first cavalry,
Did his duty,
Religiously,

I’m afraid,
I never knew him well,
But would follow him,
Through the gates of hell

We might be hot,
And terrified,
But he’d lead us through,
And out the other side.
