Blackened shades of vermillion
charred sooty trees
denuded, destroyed
beyond natural repair.
Abhor the complimentary way
the blood of man
and black of night
make you feel at ease.
A phantom hesitation
a dirty, sticky spiral
as you’re jettisoned down
without cessation,
nothing to alleviate your fears.
We are the darkest session of plague
constantly bleeding ourselves
to our own extinction.

i love the darkness of this. i also love that you let the poem establish the darkness of this without having the background be black. i also love the third stanza, and how quickly the reader finds out there fear isnt going away.

I really enjoy reading a poem and only discovering it is a word bank poem at the end. None of the wording seemed forced, and I'm still not sure what words you were required to use. Your metaphor was consistent with colors of red and black and your final stanza was a fitting climax to your thoughts. Good luck in this contest. Peace, Liz
