Oh sweet crown of youth
whose blossom has fallen off the rose.
For Heaven's Prince of Peace now beckons
the Princes and Princess.
As we the lesser mourn your loss.
We bid you adieu to where a sweeter
band of immortals sing.
whose blossom has fallen off the rose.
For Heaven's Prince of Peace now beckons
the Princes and Princess.
As we the lesser mourn your loss.
We bid you adieu to where a sweeter
band of immortals sing.
Author notes
We are now in the Lent season and this was a college campus where the bands should be playing in jublilation for a school game. I believe that the heavens truly mourn when the young die like this.

This piece is beautiful and brought tears to my eyes, as have all the NIU tributes today. I was on the campus yesterday, following my daily college routine of waiting for my mother to get off of work...but it was nothing close to normal. I could feel the angels moourning, as they do in your writing. You could feel the tears of others as they became those of your own. I've prayed with people of different religions and made my lifestyle more open than ever. We need to embrace each other and become one in moments like this. Your imagery was fantastic and your words were beautiful, as well as sweet. I also loved your metaphor. Keep up the great work, thanks for the entry, and may God bless us all!
