A caged bird, waiting to be asked to sing.
No commitment given, no ring.
When let go, it never comes back.
Never misses the things it lacks.
No regrets, just fly;
Escape! Now! One chance or die.
Waits for life to come to her.
The start of nothing, only a blurr.
Impatience overrides,
a quality to despise.
She makes mistakes, but stays strong.
That is life. There's nothing wrong
With failure. But she can still sing,
And persuade those with only a fling.
Works hard at life, sees the tops of mountains,
Drinks from the elixir of life, a bittersweet fountain.
She enjoys the good things in life,
food, laughter, a decent strife.
I, too, know why the caged bird sings.
Why oppressors cannot halt my power.
Why men can give me no rings.
Why I fly, instead of being sour.
I, too, know why the caged bird sings.
Author notes
I suggest you read I know why the caged bird sings by Maya Angelou...great inspiration.
