I get it!
I need you to be proud
of the better person
I’m trying to be.
You don’t want me to change
because the stronger person
I am becoming
won’t let you have your way.
So, I get it, baby-boy!
I am sorry
that I wasn’t the person
I am becoming
when I was raising you.
Maybe, if I had been,
your mind would be
a better place for you to be.
But I can’t let the fear
of losing your love
keep me from doing better
any longer.
NO MORE EXCUSES
I am sorry
for the time we are missing now
because of your rebelliousness
against my change.
I can only hope
that with some maturity
you will be able
to get it, too.

JUDGE:
Here it is late October and I see I commented on this in February. I thought at first it didn’t fit the category but reading it again I see it is a story of improvement and hope. You are one of my favorite poets and I will see if I can find a place for you.

You know, I think if I were to read all your (few) poems, I would know your life story so far. I hope someday you are able to write of joy and happiness. Hang in there.
