[ The Tearoom. ]

The Tearoom.

The most beautiful of sunny winter mornings and this was that day.

I walked with the dog and then went to the ever so quaint town of Much Wenlock and wanted tea.

So I went in the ever so quaint tearoom and felt sorry for the Sunday flustered staff.

Drank from the quaint little teapot as the polite southern English muttered so serenely.

Then as I zoned (me the celtic lanky mongrel) a little toddler kid (that a middle class woman had been dawdling in front of the busy staff doing an impromptu walking lesson) started backing flat hands out in to the red-hot woodstove.

So I shouted 'The Kid the Kid!' She pulled him away and nodded a polite acknowledgement.

The Grandmother who was old Shropshire stock came storming through some minutes later in a fury with the middle class woman hurrying after her saying to the stalwart Nan 'I don’t like you saying I'm not caring for the welfare of'... out of ear shot then.

So I felt like a superhero and sensed something strange like I had to be there on that day. So I went hunting rabbits with the dog and enjoyed the rest of the day.

First prose entry I've read in this contest. Just another ordinary day - all blend into years and are gone before we know it. Will this one stand out a bit more maybe because of what you did? Then it is a day to remember.

You are a hero; I sat helplessly in a restaurant as I saw a child spill a pot of hot tea on himself. What confussion followed ! To my amazemant nobody knew to put cold water and ice on the burns."Put vinager on it!","Put butter on it!" Having been a former employee there I took the initiative to go to the kitchen for wet dish clothes and ice... all the rags in the kitchen were filthy, the sinks were filled to overflow with dirty pots and dishes;no way to give quick relief with cold running water...at any rate when I came out, the woman had left, off for the hospital.Much better to prevent,"corrughadh", than heal!

so tell me, (please dont think me rude) is the expression "ever so quaint" a common phrase in your circles? I was wondering because it may work better if you only mentioned it once, or it could work better if you repeated it several more times to make it a larger piece of the write. I know your notes say you are not changing it, and by all means your own feelings are most important of course.
This is just my observation and I hope you are not offended.
