Ebb and Flow, Crack or Conquer

As we stand by the waters edge
noticing the uneven force of the waves
beating against the shore
we see some mighty, impressive and strong
and others that just sputter out
like a big "so what?" or "why bother?"
And yet both tied to the great and awesome entity
that we call the sea or the ocean.

The ocean has been looked upon
with wonder by all who behold it
for as long as there has been
people around to do so
and it seems that it has a message
or many messages that at times come
with the raging and wasted sea foam
deposited on the beach with the bits
of broken sea treasures, bits and pieces
of life remnants from more fortunate times
in an ever-changing and exciting aqua world.

But as we scan the beach more closely we also see
evidence of strength and endurance
despite the awesome churning of the sea
some shells, having served their grand purpose
have made it intact and washed clean
to the victory shores to be taken up and prized
by the beauty of these little heroes of the sea.

And so it is, my sad, but dear friend
the story of our lives in non-stop performance
by the drama and theatre of the sea
Illustrating for us the ups and downs of life
the endless challenges of life in the dry
the churning pressures and stress which produce
in some the forgotten shards of broken dreams and rubble
and yet in others the defining moment of their lives
and the refining carpet of times onward thrust
to make us better than we were before
because we didn't lose our bearings and give up
but rode through the waves of life to find
our greatest achievements come to recognition and worth
in the eyes of the world, but more importantly
in our own eyes and sense of well-being--
having weather the stormy seas of life
now to claim a victory on the glistening shores
now sparkling and warmed by the glorious rays of the sun.
