Writing

One asks what it's like to write
I say it's like flying a kite
You can control the strings,
But the kite itself runs free
There's the the flash of inspiration
The rush where there's creation
So easy to know and write
It just feels so right
Then afterwards the marvel
It's like everything else is null
Immersed in thought, not knowing what
What your writing until the door shuts
Then you see it and you know
That you can really flow
From your head to your toes
From the roots of every tree
To every single possibility
I ask what is your core
Try it, it's yours!

I like the idea of this poem a lot. I especially like the lines "you can control the strings/ but the kite itself runs free." I like the idea of being merely a conduit for inspiration, and have felt that way myself many times. It seems in a few places, however, you just add words because they rhyme, your heart doesn't seem to be in it. Perhaps I am wrong, but that is the feeling I get. Maybe this poem would be better as a free-verse than with such a forced rhyme scheme. Thanks for entering and good luck in my contest!
