I would confess
that I noticed you
& my first thought
had to do with
the way your long hair,
[curls,
fashionably,
palpably wet]
reminded me of
Titian’s—not Botticelli’s—ideal
of beauty,
his Venus Rising from the Sea.
& I would confess
that I noticed you
& told myself I ought
not allow your face, with
one glance, to snare
me, but a feeling unfurls,
suddenly,
& I get,
noticeably unbalanced, of
course I feel,
uncomfortably sure you see
thru me.
I realize, in a poet’s way,
that you are woman enough
to know that I truly love
the company I keep.
In the meeting of our eyes,
yours are as transparent as
the narrow creek in front of
my grandparents’ house,
only the water striders
are absent. In them,
I see all that is possible for you;
another poem rising from me.
Please tell me what you think

I love your tone of voice. It is sexy. It is sexy in all the poems I've just read of yours ..but really attractive in this poem.
It is also the poem, too...that is sexy, the words, the pace, imagery & I love how you get all carried away to your grandparents house...ah, but love does that to us in poetry....
this is a smile poem & one that makes me smile...one I am so happy I found at this site & read tonight....thanks!

And because you are a poet, you saw the poem rising, the waters of inspiration lapping against the ear, the eyes, the mind. Loved this one, especially the closing lines.
