Whispers from the sea
taunt me like omens
distant places
and time wasted
Memories roll on black
waves only to fade away
cower in the abyss
attack in the night
Ocean winds laugh wildly
in my tear-stained face
what a joke my life must
seem to one so educated
I laugh, too, hair whipping my
face, sand assaulting my eyes
I don't like the joke, but 'tis
better to laugh than to cry
I have nothing left to give
nothing to fear but myself
dolls in the closet holding
my name in their hands
And mirror image ghosts
wandering my broken halls
shadows of myself chasing
each other, promising release
Death looms on the horizon
but I've no ship to meet him
such an impatient man when
he has an eternity to wait
