When I was little and bedtime was near
I recall that old rhyme I use to hold dear
My mamaw always said it to me
At night when tucking me in cozily
For a while when I was quite small
I was scared of those bedbugs all
I never knew how they might look
But realized I didn’t want to be hooked
As I grew I felt they were all fake
It was just told to keep me awake
But I discovered not to many years ago
After touring a house of the 1800’s or so
That mom’s told kids that every night
To keep them on their guard so tight
In those old houses bedbugs would creep
Climbing in the bed when you were asleep
Hence the kiddie rhyme we know today
Trusting our parents would keep them away

You know.
The old problem of bed bugs has not gone away. They say to change your mattress ever so often. So this turned out to be a practical poem as well as a very readable one.

This is a different point of view, the historical one. Our bug friends have been around at least that long. I like the way you connect your piece with the old bedbug rhyme.
Thank you for entering my contest.
