In the arms of platitude, for now I request their return
To fill that passion and need I crave
But I’ll try
To relive those feelings that quickly crawled up my arms
Warmed my brow in to a dizzying effect when you held me
With your heart, far from the arms that
Opened to my need
Still, I want to return to the spirit that stayed with me
In your absence, that essence that spoke to me
While alone wondering why these tears flowed
From happiness of having you, knowing you
As mine
Still, I need to try
to covert that time that sailed away So far
that I thought you were gone from all that I cherished
All that I’ve known, to be true
But I’ll try to forgive that selfish thought of my heart
To be first
To be seen as the only
This selfish need to be loved, on my terms
Even as I try,
I’ll see that which is not seen
As I hold your face with gratitude, with peace
That you have given me for these decades
Through your time away, your forgotten love
That seemed to resurface within you to make me
Try again
To enjoy that Mona Lisa smile
That has more behind it than any one can ever see
Because it’s the thought of dying
The thought living
Only ,
with me
This. Is why I’ll try
to love you again
Author notes
To my wife that has tolerated the emotional, ego ridden years together. With and without what we both needed.
This is a picture on a cruise ship when Katrina was smashing against the states. We almost ran straight into it. So we decided we will be happy even if we died that night.
Real life stuff.

I think with marraige, there are no easy answers. But for the love of our life, there is always second(and third, and more) chances to make up for the mistakes that we make. To love someone unconditionally, and have that love returned equally, through the good and the hard times, really makes it worth it to stick it out for the long haul. I've been married three times; my husband Rob and I have been married for 6yrs 5mo, together for over 7yrs. It's not been easy, we've seen our share of hard times. We've hurt each other; that's inevitable. But we forgive and move forward, onward and upward to better times.
Thank you for sharing such a wonderfully penned poem, with true talk on love, marraige, and your commitment to make your marraige work. If more ppl had your mindset on making it through the hard times to get to the smoother times, I believe the divorce rate our society would be much less.
Take care my poet friend.

This has left me reaching for the tissuses.
Such a beautiful poem of pure devotion
It takes a lot to keep a relationship going
you have to be able to ride the rough with the smooth
and be able to tell each other how you both truly feel.
A wonderful tribute to your beautiful wife
May you both always be blessed
Luv ~sweetness~

Pure Devotion
This is a heart felt poem that really needs to become a Hallmark moment. I like the love and the energy that was put into this poem. You are strong at expressing the feelings that you have inside and I think that it's cool for a man to honor his wife the way you did. Keep up the good work. Keep writing and I'll keep reading.

What beauty you have penned with your words of love.
Relationships are wonderful but through the years they change and you have to hold on until the tide calms down.
I think you and your wife have it worked out and know what has to be done. That is wonderful and I wish you much love and happiness always..
Love
Soulful Woman

This full of some very deep thoughts on life, emotions. On healing and reaching for the light in a star faraway, yet in front of you it is dim. I once heard my son say; (A Mans gotta do-what a mans gotta do!) so I understand son how you must of felt in that ship, almost at odds with death....I'll Try! Excellent write.........
