Saving My Heart

As I sit in this car,
driving without thought;
I think of the days we once spent together.
Even though tears seem to blind me,
I continue on,
swearing on my honor and pride,
I will forget you by the time I arrive at home.
I won't be able to see your face when I close my eyes,
those strong coal eyes that are hard,
yet soft at the same time...
I won't feel your shoulder length hair against my cheek,
or feel those sweet lips on mine.

I'll forget you, my love,
because I can't do anything else,
while saving my heart at the same time...

    I like.

    I think you summed it up well in the last lines that you wrote. While saving my heart at the same time.

    This is amazing!! I loved all of it...the flow...the wording...the imagery...the feeling and emotion, well done!! And the last three lines are devastingly gorgeous.
