The surface of the ocean
Gray as granite slate
Black clouds boil the sky above
While thunder forcasts fate
Massive waves rocked by harsh winds
And lightning burning hot
Ignite the ceiling of the world
Along the course they plot
White foam caps the violent tides
While vicious winds swirl down
Drawing seas into the heart
Of Mother Nature's crown
Like a swaying banshee
The charcoal monster grows
Rising from rough waters
A dark and damaged rose
Tearing mighty currents
Away from earth below
So beautiful and deadly
This fearsome force of woe
The power of the planet
It's Majesty so bold
Intimidates the soul of man
It's fury uncontrolled
Gray as granite slate
Black clouds boil the sky above
While thunder forcasts fate
Massive waves rocked by harsh winds
And lightning burning hot
Ignite the ceiling of the world
Along the course they plot
White foam caps the violent tides
While vicious winds swirl down
Drawing seas into the heart
Of Mother Nature's crown
Like a swaying banshee
The charcoal monster grows
Rising from rough waters
A dark and damaged rose
Tearing mighty currents
Away from earth below
So beautiful and deadly
This fearsome force of woe
The power of the planet
It's Majesty so bold
Intimidates the soul of man
It's fury uncontrolled
Author notes
In this poem, I tried to relate an event that was a little bit outside of the norm. Most people have never had the opportunity to actually see a water spout as it moves across a large body of water. For this reason, I wished to offer the reader a different perspective on an uncommon event.

How true...many elements of nature seem very furious and remind man that he is not in control of his life or fate. As I read, it reminded me a tornado...then I read your authors notes so I guess your poem had it's intended effect! I'm so fascinated with tornadoes, living in the midwest, I guess that's an inevitability. Thanks for bringing life to one of God's most beautiful and dangerous creations. Good luck in the contest!
