Along a very quiet, narrow country road
On the banks sloped up high either side
Nodded thousands of tiny little white heads
In the shelter of hedges where they bide
Each dainty head dangling on a thin strand
Bobbing around in the wind and rain
Every one on a strong, slender smooth stem
Sparkling like snowflakes along the lane
Standing amidst their sword shaped leaves
From bulbs they push up from the earth
They herald the start of the new spring growth
So delicate but we know their worth
Sweet snowdrops, they may only be very small
They have no bright colours or ways to look bold
But how we look forward to seeing them there
So brave defying the wind, rain and cold
How can something so simple and serene
Give such a show of beauty and delight
We all have to smile just to see them there
They tell us winter is losing its might
Author notes
All along the banks there were hundreds yesterday in the sunshine. Spring is waking up again to show off our wild flowers.

Your poem reminds me of the book, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. Specifically of the part when Aslan returns and winter begins to melt away after hundreds of years. It also reminds me of my tulips...how they shoot forth each spring with due dilligence, showing me that winter has almost come to an end. What a lovely poem. I know I look forward to winter's end. You paint a serene and happy picture. Thanks so much for entering and good luck!
