Saint Valentine's Day Cliche

Dear Cupid,
I hope that you receive
The letter that I wrote to you,
This solemn Valentine's Eve.

Dear Cupid,
I don't want any love songs,
No moonlit serenades,
It just seems wrong,
So damn rehearsed,
The Saint Valentine's Day Cliche.

Dear Cupid,
Some girls don't think true love is blind,
Some girls want blue-boxed Tiffany's,
But if the girl in question was me,
My only inquiry would be
The free exchange of his beating,
Boyish heart for mine.

Dear Cupid,
I don't need 12 long stemmed roses,
Yellow daisies are lovelier in an
Innocent sort of way,
I don't need heart-shaped chocolates
To prove I'm loved on Valentine's Day.

Dear Cupid,
I guess what I'm trying to say,
Is that I've been pretty good all year,
Loving more than halfway,
Prince Charming was self-centred and
So insincere
So I wish I may, I wish you might
Bring on the frogs, imperfect as
They may appear,
And aim your arrows tipped with light
Down on my Valentine's Night.

Author notes

For all my lovely singletons out there.
